Hadith No. 16 – Sahih al-Bukhari
Salam,
Bismillah.
When you love someone, you love everything and everyone related to them. You love all that reminds you of them.
Faith –> Love of Allah –> Love of Prophet (SAW) –> Love of ________
We’ll fill in the blank later..
Narrated Anas:
The Prophet said, “Love for the Ansar is a sign of faith and hatred for the Ansar is a sign of hypocrisy.”
So, the blank fills in as ‘Ansar’. The Helpers. Known for their enormous help and sacrifices they made after Hijrah of the Prophet (SAW) and Muslims. The Brotherhood Act. All that.
But the fact of the matter is, they’re not alive today. And this saying of the Holy Prophet (SAW) is for everyone. How to love the Ansar? Answer is easy. Get to know about them.
If you think you don’t need to read up, guess who this person was:
“O Abu Mundhir! Which verse of the Book of God is the greatest?” asked the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace. “Allah and His Messenger know best,” came the reply. The Prophet repeated the question and Abu Mundhir replied.
“Allah, there is no god but He, the Living the Self-Subsisting. Neither slumber overtakes him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth, …” and most likely he went on to complete the Verse of the Throne (Ayat al-Kursi).
The Prophet smote his chest with his right hand in approval on hearing the reply and with his countenance beaming with happiness, said to Abu Mundhir. “May knowledge delight and benefit you, Abu Mundhir.”
So, who is Abu Mundhir? Frankly, I didn’t know the name myself.

You’ll love reading about the Ansar, inshaAllah. Take it as a sign of Faith. =)
Wassalam.
