Hadith No. 50 – Sahih al-Bukhari
Salam,
Bismillah.
Narrated Abu Jamra:
I used to sit with Ibn ‘Abbas and he made me sit on his sitting place. He requested me to stay with him in order that he might give me a share from his property. So I stayed with him for two months. Once he told (me) that when the delegation of the tribe of ‘Abdul Qais came to the Prophet, the Prophet asked them, “Who are the people (i.e. you)? (Or) who are the delegate?” They replied, “We are from the tribe of Rabi’a.” Then the Prophet said to them, “Welcome! O people (or O delegation of ‘Abdul Qais)! Neither will you have disgrace nor will you regret.” They said, “O Allah’s Apostle! We cannot come to you except in the sacred month and there is the infidel tribe of Mudar intervening between you and us. So please order us to do something good (religious deeds) so that we may inform our people whom we have left behind (at home), and that we may enter Paradise (by acting on them).” Then they asked about drinks (what is legal and what is illegal). The Prophet ordered them to do four things and forbade them from four things. He ordered them to believe in Allah Alone and asked them, “Do you know what is meant by believing in Allah Alone?” They replied, “Allah and His Apostle know better.” Thereupon the Prophet said, “It means:
1. To testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad is Allah’s Apostle.
2. To offer prayers perfectly
3. To pay the Zakat (obligatory charity)
4. To observe fast during the month of Ramadan.
5. And to pay Al-Khumus (one fifth of the booty to be given in Allah’s Cause).
Then he forbade them four things, namely, Hantam, Dubba,’ Naqir Ann Muzaffat or Muqaiyar; (These were the names of pots in which Alcoholic drinks were prepared) (The Prophet mentioned the container of wine and he meant the wine itself). The Prophet further said (to them): “Memorize them (these instructions) and convey them to the people whom you have left behind.”
It’s a pretty long one, isn’t it? I take the last sentence:
Memorize them (these instructions) and convey them to the people whom you have left behind.
Two things:
- Memorize Prophet (SAW)’s sayings.
- Convey them to those who don’t know.
I feel so glad I’m doing them already! Alhamdulillah. :D
Just have to work on number 1 a little more. I’ve memorized a few, but keeping them memorized requires effort too. With Allah’s help, inshaAllah!
Tell me, what do you plan to do about it?
Wassalam.
I Think So…
Recently I learned a hadith:
“There is wisdom in some forms of poetry”
[Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud]
So I went to search some forms of decent poetry, and truly few were really amazing. Here is a glimpse of few:
The Victor
Poet: C.W. Longenecker
If you think you are beaten, you are.
If you think you dare not, you don’t
If you like to win but think you can’t,
It’s almost a cinch you won’t.
If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost.
For out in the world we find
Success begins with a fellow’s will
It’s all in the state of mind.
If you think you are outclassed, you are.
You’ve got to think high to rise.
You’ve got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win the prize.
Life’s battles don’t always go
To the stronger or faster man.
But sooner or later, the man who wins
Is the man who thinks he can.
While I was reading it I started relating it to so many things in my mind like: we are required to strive and we will be accountable for WHY we did something? before going on to HOW we did it? All of these WHY’s are thoughts; intangible, unseen intentions; but in the end, they matter. They are the one that defines you, drives you. like a Mu’min is one who fears that his sins are too heavy and hopes that his little good deeds will be accepted and this thoughts of fear and hope drives him, so he works more; that is exactly what the next poem is about – turn your thoughts into action and open the doors you thought were long closed..
Results and Roses
Poet: Edgar Guest
The man who wants a garden fair,
Or small or very big,
With flowers growing here and there,
Must bend his back and dig.
The things are mighty few on earth
That wishes can attain.
Whate’er we want of any worth
We’ve got to work to gain.
It matters not what goal you seek
Its secret here reposes:
You’ve got to dig from week to week
To get Results or Roses.
So work, work and work till it’s TIME’S UP. In other words, “DO JIHAD”. Don’t just SIT and THINK!
Jazakumullah for your time.
