Wisdom Is.. (Hadith No. 73)
Salam,
Bismillah.
Hadith No. 72 is a repeat. Read here!
Narrated ‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud:
The Prophet said, “Do not wish to be like anyone except in two cases. (The first is) A person, whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it righteously; (the second is) the one whom Allah has given wisdom and he acts according to it and teaches it to others.”
What is wisdom? Let’s see what Wikipedia says:
Wisdom is a deep understanding and realizing of people, things, events or situations, resulting in the ability to choose or act to consistently produce the optimum results with a minimum of time and energy. It is the ability to optimally (effectively and efficiently) apply perceptions and knowledge and so produce the desired results. Wisdom is also the comprehension of what is true or right coupled with optimum judgment as to action.
Keywords: “Deep understanding”, “producing optimum results”, “comprehension of what is right”.
In terms of religion, wisdom generally refers to “deep understanding” of Quran and Sunnah. And with that, “producing optimum results” as a result of being able to “comprehend what is right”. (It should make sense!)
A person who is able to do all this, is surely inspirational. Wish to be like him! Because Allah says:
وَمَن يُؤْتَ الْحِكْمَةَ فَقَدْ أُوتِيَ خَيْرًا كَثِيرًا
“..and he, to whom Hikmah is granted, is indeed granted abundant good..” [Al-Baqarah: 269]
Wassalam!
