Believer Is Never Impure (Hadith No. 281)
Don’t you get the feeling of impurity when you’re Junub (state of being after sexual intercourse) or menstruating? And you feel like you shouldn’t go near/touch holy places and things, like mosques, musalla (place of prayer), mus’haf (Quran) etc? Abu Huraira thought the same, but Prophet (SAW) corrected him.
Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet came across me in one of the streets of Medina and at that time I was Junub. So I slipped away from him and went to take a bath. On my return the Prophet said, “O Abu Huraira! Where have you been?” I replied, “I was Junub, so I disliked to sit in your company.” The Prophet said, “Subhan Allah! A believer never becomes impure.”
Now this doesn’t mean you should definitely sit on the musalla when you’re menstruating. The implication is: there’s no harm. You can recite/listen to the Holy Quran. But you should be careful about touching its Arabic text.
There’s no need to make things hard for yourself. These ‘impurities’ are natural. You can’t avoid them, neiter should you be ashamed of them. And it’s only Shaitan who wants us to be away from the Dhikr of Allah. Islam doesn’t forbid it in any situation whatsoever. Rather, we’re encouraged to do it all the time. Prophet (SAW) used to recite the verses of Surah Al-Imran when he woke up at Tahajjud time. Note that he could’ve been Junub or just not in the state of wudhu, but he still recited the Quran. So it’s no big deal.
Hope the message is clear enough.
