How to Answer the Adhaan? (Ahadith 585-587)
Salam,
Bismillah.
Volume 1, Book 11, Number 585:
Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri:
Allah’s Apostle said, “Whenever you hear the Adhan, say what the Mu’adhdhin is saying.
Volume 1, Book 11, Number 586:
Narrated ‘Isa bin Talha:
that he had heard Mu’awiya repeating the words of Adhan up to “Wa ash-hadu Anna Muhammadan Rasulul-lah (and I testify that Muhammad is Allah’s Apostle.)”
Volume 1, Book 11, Number 587:
Narrated Yahya as above (586) and added:
“Some of my companions told me that Hisham had said, “When the Muadhin said, “Haiya alas-sala(t) (come for the prayer).” Muawiya said, “La hawla wala quwata illa billah (There is neither might nor any power except with Allah)” and added, “We heard your Prophet saying the same.”
So, when the muadhin (caller to prayer) is pronouncing the Adhaan, you’re supposed to repeat what he says. But when he says ‘hayya alas-salah‘ and ‘hayya alal-falah‘, say: ‘la hawla wala quwwata illa billah‘.
Wassalam.

Assalamu Alaikum
What to answer when we hear “Assalatu khairumminannawm” for Fajr?
To the best of our knowledge, we have not come across anything in the authentic Sunnah stating what exactly to say when the ‘muaddhin’ declares ‘as salaatu khairun minan noum’ in the fajr adhaan.
Some scholars are of the opinion that one may remain silent when this phrase is declared, while others say that one should merely repeat the same…..but we reiterate again, that we have not come across any authentic hadith in the Sunnah which declares what exactly to say when this phrase is announced during the ‘fajr’ adhaan. And Allah Alone Knows Best.
