We are but a mute crowd,
No time for words have we,
We go where life leads us,
Yet we call ourselves free!

Where have all the words gone?
What has rendered us mute?
We are naught but machines now,
All we do is compute.

Where have those times gone,
When there were poets galore?
Either man’s become an empty vessel
Or cannot express himself any more.

We call ourselves developed,
Technology rules the day,
But when it comes to expression,
We have not words to say.

The words that we use today,
Lack their true strength, I fear,
For great words, like those of yore,
Can bring about a smile or a tear.

Words are a sign of wisdom,
Words are food for thought,
Words I need to end this poem,
Words that I have not!
