Al-Hadeeth Al-Qudsi الحدیث القدسی

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

السلام علیکم ورحمة اللہ وبرکاته

Most of time we use the word that this Hadeeth is al-Hadeeth al-Qudsi…Many of us know about it Alhamdulillah. :)
But sometimes its meaning is not well-understood and most of the sects (like Al-Jahmiyyah Al-Ja’diyyah, Al-Mu’tazilah Az-Zaidiyyah and Al-Karraamiyyah As-Sijistaaniyyah) say concerning al-Hadeeth al-Qudsi that its wording is from the Prophet (sallalaahu alaihi wa sallam) and its meaning is from Allaah The Mighty and Majestic, and this is also their belief with regards to the Qur’aan. Yet no one from amongst the Salaf said this, rather what the Salaf were upon was that  al-Hadeeth al-Qudsi is the speech of Allaah The Mighty and Majestic, so the Prophet (Sallaallaahu ‘alyhi wa sallam) would say: ‘Allaah says’ and this is a reality which does not have an aversion for it, therefore it is to be said:

“that al-Hadeeth al-Qudsi is the speech of Allaah the Mighty and Majestic in wording and meaning”.

Al-Hadeeth al-Qudsi are Allaah’s Words that are not created, they are similar to the Qur’an such as Allaah’s Saying (Glorified and Exalted be He) in respect of what the Prophet (Sallaallaahu alayhi wa sallaam) narrated from Him (Glorified be He):

“ALLAAH (Mighty and Sublime be He) said:

“Pride is My cloak and greatness My robe, and he who competes with Me in respect of either of them I shall cast into Hell-fire”

May Allaah (subhanahu wa ta’laa) give us hidayah. Aameen.

i want to know your opinion about the arab/qur’aan word ‘nahnu’ that some of the english translation, interpretates the word ‘nahnu’ = ‘we’ or ‘……..’. in al qur’aan surah (56) al waaqi’ah : 60. is it have something related to the angels or someword else ? thanks

  3. Assalaamu’alaykum wa rehmatullahi wa barakatuhu
Ukhti… As far as I know about revelation (wahi) that there some scholars said that there are 7 types of ways of revelation on Prophet Sallallaahu’aayhi wa salaam, (like through angel, riniging of bell)….
Hadith Qudsi are Allah’s Words that are not created, they are similar to the Qur’an such as Allah’s Saying (Glorified and Exalted be He) in respect of what the Prophet (peace be upon him) narrated from Him (Glorified be He):
“O My slaves, I have forbidden Zhulm (injustice) to Myself and made it forbidden amongst you, so do not wrong one another. O My slaves all of you are misguided except those whom I guide, so ask Me for guidance, and I will guide you”.
    (source: alifa.net)…
I’ll Inshaa’Allaah learn more about it and answer your question in detail… kindly give me some time :) May Allaah Subhana tal’aa help me in this matter :)

  4. Assalaamu’alaykum Wa Rehmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu…
Brother here is tafseer of ayaat of Al-Waqiya (60) from Tafseer Ibn Katheer… you can study in detail about the Surah by following the link aswell….

    نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ الْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
We have decreed death to you all, and We are not outstripped,

    Allaah said,
    نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ الْمَوْتَ …
We have decreed death to you all,
meaning, `We made death exist between you.’
    Ad-Dahhak commented,
“Allah made the residents of the heavens and earth equal with regards to death.”

    Allaah said,
    … وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ ﴿٦٠﴾
    and We are not outstripped,
    meaning, `We are never unable,’

It’s about Allaah Subhana tal’aa that Allah asserts that Resurrection will occur and refutes the misguided atheists who deny it, those who said, أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَئِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُون (When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected??

and in arabic grammar word “Nahnu” “نحن is used for ‘We’ for Two persons and for Plural as well…
    And Allaah knows the Best…
and for your above question I am not getting any reliable information and answer… I am trying… Let me study first than Inshaa’Allaah I’ll be able to answer…
    Assalaamu’alaykum

  5. Assalaamu’alaykum Wa Rehmatullaahi Wa Barakatuhu…

Regarding the post “Hadeeth-ul-Qudsi”, we got some feedback as some saying that the concept wasn’t very clear…Ok..I want to ask what was not clear, as If I know I’ll be able to cover those points Inshaa’Allaah.

As far as I think some are taking Haeeth-ul-qudsi and Qura’an as the same thing?? But there is difference in both.. Inshaa’Allaah I’ll post on this topic as well.. If you have some uncleared question or any query in your mind regarding the post, feel free to ask. Inshaa’Allaah I’ll try from Allaah’s help to clear those points . :)

    May Allaah give us Hidaya..

    Assalaamu’alaykum

  6. Assalamu alaikum,

Bi’ithnillah, I pray to Allah that this comment will bring clarity to the topic. In sha Allah.

Actually scholars of Hadith have differentiated between two distinct types of Hadith which are termed as al-hadith an-nabawi and al-hadith al-qudsi. The former type is restricted to the sayings of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), while the latter pertains to the sayings of the Prophet through the medium of divine inspiration.

Qudus means holy or sacred. The sayings that are termed as al-qudsi are such that while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was relating them to his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), he mentioned that Allah, in effect, had communicated them to him. However, these communications do not form part of the Qur’an.

Such reports are included within the category of hadith qudsi. An example of this type of hadith is one that has been reported by Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) in which it is mentioned that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that Allah said, “If My servant likes to meet Me, I will love to meet him.”

While the common factor between the hadith qudsi and the Qur’an is that both contain words from Allah that were revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), they are, nevertheless, distinct from each other as pointed out here:

    1. The Qur’an contains the verbatim words of Allah, while a hadith qudsi contains the message of Allah conveyed to the people by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the Prophet’s own words.

    2. The Qur’an is inimitable and unique, but such is not the case with a hadith qudsi. This is so because the latter is not the verbatim word of Allah.

    3. The Qur’an is recited in every Prayer but a hadith qudsi cannot be recited in any Prayer.

Elaborating on the differences between Hadith Qudsi and Hadith Nabawi and between Hadith Qudsi and the Qur’an, we’d like to cite for you the following:

We can also say that a hadith qudsi (Arabic plural ahadith qudsiyyah) is a statement in which Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) reports a statement and he refers it directly to Allah. The regular hadith or what is generally known as a hadith Nabawi is a hadith in which one of the Companions reports the Prophet’s statements, deeds, or things that happened in his presence and he approved of. There are more than one hundred qudsi hadiths. They are very beautiful and deal mostly with spiritual and ethical subjects.

To clarify more, we can explain that the scholars of Hadith have mentioned five main differences between the Qur’an and the hadith qudsi:

    1. The Qur’an was revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) verbatim, that is, both its words and meanings are from Allah. The hadith qudsi was not a verbatim revelation; its words are from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

    2. The Qur’an was revealed via Angel Jibreel while the hadith qudsi may have been inspired by other ways, such as in the form of a dream.

    3. The words of the Qur’an are miraculous or inimitable (mu`jizah) while the words of the hadith qudsi are not of this nature.

    4. The Qur’an is recited in formal Prayers (salah) but the hadith qudsi cannot be recited in Prayers.

    5. One is not allowed to touch the Qur’an in the state of Janabah (post-sexual impurity), while there is no such prohibition for touching the books of Hadith Qudsi.”

Anything said that is good is from Allah, The Mighty and The Magestic, and anything said that is wrong is from me or shaytan. Wassalamu alaikum.

  7. Walay’kumus-salaam Wa Rehmatullaahi Wa Barakatuhu

    Jazaak’Allaah hu khyrun…. :) May Allaah be pleased with you…. :)
Inshaa’Allaah from your comment many things will clear… :)

Mashaa’Allaah you have covered all the differences which I read… :) Alhaamdulilaah

One more difference between Qur’aan and Hadith-ul-Qudsi that Qur’aan is transmitted by tawatur (transmitted by numerous people) whereas the Hadith Qudsi is often only transmitted by a few or sometimes even by one individual.
There are also Hadith Qudsi which are graded as Saheeh (highest authenticity), or hasan (authentic), or even da’eef (weakness in the transmission or text). There is no such doubt about any of the verses of the Qur’aan.

The most important distinction between the Qur’aan and all other words or writings therefore is that the Qur’aan is the speech from Allah, revealed in its precise meaning and wording through the Angel Gabriel, transmitted by many, inimitable, unique and protected by Allaah Himself against any corruption…
    And Allaah knows the Best

I hope now the concept of Hadeeth-ul-Qudsi will be cleared from the comment of Ukhti Zaynab and from this comment…

May Allaah Subhana ta’laa make our intentions (Niyaa) pure for Him…

    Assalaamu’alaykum

  8. Just correcting…. I wrote your name ‘Zaynab’ but it’s ‘Zanyab’…

  9. Ohh… :)
Za’nyah…I hope now em right.. :)
