(Hadith No. 1390)

Bismillah.

Hadith no. 1389 (below) is a repeat. Read it here.

Volume 2, Book 26, Number 689:

Narrated Abu Huraira (radiallaahu `anhu):

In the year prior to the last Hajj of the Prophet when Allahs Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) made Abu Bakr (radiallaahu `anhu) the leader of the pilgrims, the latter (Abu Bakr (radiallaahu `anhu)) sent me in the company of a group of people to make a public announcement: ‘No pagan is allowed to perform Hajj after this year, and no naked person is allowed to perform Tawaf of the Kaba.’

Today’s Hadith:

Volume 2, Book 26, Number 690:

Narrated Amr:

We asked Ibn Umar (radiallaahu `anhu): “May a man have sexual relations with his wife during the Umra before performing Tawaf between Safa and Marwa?” He said, “Allah’s Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) arrived (in Mecca) and circumambulated the Kaba seven times, then offered two Rakat behind Maqam Ibrahim (the station of Abraham), then performed Tawaf between Safa and Marwa.” Ibn Umar (radiallaahu `anhu) added, “Verily! In Allah’s Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) you have a good example.” And I asked Jabir bin Abdullah (radiallaahu `anhu) (the same question), and he replied, “You should not go near your wives (have sexual relations) till you have finished Tawaf between Safa and Marwa. “

Note: “Tawaaf between Safa and Marwa” = Sa`ee.

It is permissible for a man to have intercourse with his wife at any time, except when one of them is in ihraam for Hajj or ‘Umrah, or is fasting, so it is not allowed during the day when one of them is fasting, but it is allowed at night; it is also haraam when the woman is menstruating or bleeding following childbirth.

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“The Hajj (pilgrimage) is (in) the well-known (lunar year) months (i.e. the 10th month, the 11th month and the first ten days of the 12th month of the Islamic calendar, i.e. two months and ten days). So whosoever intends to perform Hajj therein (by assuming Ihraam), then he should not have sexual relations (with his wife), nor commit sin, nor dispute unjustly during the Hajj”

[al-Baqarah 2:197]

Following Someone in Tawaaf (Ahadith 1386 – 1388)

Bismillah.

Ahadith 1384 & 1385 (below) are repeats. Read here.

Volume 2, Book 26, Number 684:

Narrated ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (radiallaahu `anhu):

When Allah’s Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) performed Tawaf of the Ka’ba for Hajj or ‘Umra, he used to do Ramal during the first three rounds, and in the last four rounds he used to walk; then after the Tawaf he used to offer two Rakat and then performed Tawaf between Safa and Marwa.

Volume 2, Book 26, Number 685:

Narrated Ibn ‘Umar (radiallaahu `anhu):

When the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) performed the Tawaf of the Ka’ba, he did Ramal during the first three rounds and in the last four rounds he used to walk and while doing Tawaf between Safa and Marwa, he used to run in the midst of the rain water passage.

Today’s Ahadith:

Volume 2, Book 26, Number 686:

Narrated Um Salama (the wife of the Prophet) (radiallaahu `anhaa):

I informed Allah’s Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) that I was ill. So he said, “Perform the Tawaf while riding behind the people.” I did so, and at that time the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) was praying beside the Ka’ba and reciting Surat-at-Tur.

Volume 2, Book 26, Number 687:

Narrated Ibn Abbas (radiallaahu `anhu):

While the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) was performing Tawaf of the Kaba, he passed by a person who had tied his hands to another person with a rope or string or something like that. The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) cut it with his own hands and said, “Lead him by the hand.”

Volume 2, Book 26, Number 688:

Narrated Ibn Abbas (radiallaahu `anhu):

The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) saw a man performing Tawaf of the Kaba tied with a string or something else. So the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) cut that string.

One may follow another in tawaaf, e.g. the group leader or mahram, but they have to make sure to only be led by hand. Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) discouraged the use of string/rope etc. that tied up the follower to the leader, as in the above Ahadith.

On the Train, To Poetry Lane

Assalam u ‘alaykum.

I am Hajrah Khawar and I like to introduce myself as a Muslim and student of knowledge. During my school years, I once wrote a poem on rain while studying at night for my maths exam. :P And then forgot about the existence of poetry in my life. Three months back it came to me in a rush of inspiration. Then things started happening, my friends caught me and on this blog I’ve been dragged at last. :D

This is one of the amazing things about Islam, it lets you discover, use and polish your skills, enjoy them and earn reward too. May Allah enable this to be a source of salvation for me and my fellow bloggers in the hereafter, and may this bring positive change in people’s lives. Say ameen. :)

P.S.  I am only an amateur, don’t expect pro stuff. We have got some amazing poets in this section though. Stay tuned!

Upon Reaching Makkah, First Thing (Hadith No. 1383)

Bismillah.

Volume 2, Book 26, Number 683:

Narrated ‘Urwa:

‘Aisha (radiallaahu `anhaa) said, “The first thing the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) did on reaching Mecca, was the ablution and then he performed Tawaf of the Ka’ba and that was not ‘Umra (alone), (but Hajj-al-Qiran). ‘Urwa added: Later Abu Bakr (radiallaahu `anhu) and ‘Umar (radiallaahu `anhu) did the same in their Hajj.” And I performed the Hajj with my father Az-Zubair (radiallaahu `anhu), and the first thing he did was Tawaf of the Ka’ba. Later I saw the Muhajirin (Emigrants) and the Ansar doing the same. My mother (Asma’ (radiallaahu `anhaa)) told me that she, her sister (‘Aisha (radiallaahu `anhaa)), Az-Zubair (radiallaahu `anhu) and such and such persons assumed Ihram for ‘Umra, and after they passed their hands over the Black Stone Corner (of the Ka’ba) they finished the Ihram. (i.e. After doing Tawaf of the Ka’ba and Sa’i between Safa-Marwa.

This is Tawaaf al-qudoom (tawaaf of arrival) for Hajj. This is done by the pilgrim who has entered ihraam for Hajj and by the pilgrim who is doing Qiraan, i.e., joining ‘Umrah and Hajj, when he reaches the Ka’bah. It is one of the obligatory duties or Sunnahs of Hajj – there is a difference of scholarly opinion.

More types of tawaaf here.

More on the Black Stone.. (Ahadith 1377 – 1382)

Bismillah.

Volume 2, Book 26, Number 677:

Narrated Ibn Abbas (radiallaahu `anhu):

In his Last Hajj the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) performed Tawaf of the Ka’ba riding a camel and pointed a bent-headed stick towards the Corner (Black Stone).

Volume 2, Book 26, Number 678:

Narrated Salim bin ‘Abdullah that his father said:

“I have not seen the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) touching except the two Yemenite Corners (i.e. the ones facing Yemen).”

Volume 2, Book 26, Number 679:

Narrated Zaid bin Aslam that his father said:

“I saw ‘Umar bin Al-Khattab (radiallaahu `anhu) kissing the Black Stone and he then said, (to it) ‘Had I not seen Allah’s Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) kissing you, (stone) I would not have kissed you.’ “

Also posted here.

Volume 2, Book 26, Number 680:

Narrated Az-Zubair bin ‘Arabi:

A man asked Ibn ‘Umar (radiallaahu `anhu) about the touching of the Black Stone. Ibn ‘Umar (radiallaahu `anhu) said, “I saw Allah’s Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) touching and kissing it.” The questioner said, “But if there were a throng (much rush) round the Ka’ba and the people overpowered me, (what would I do?)” He replied angrily, “Stay in Yemen (as that man was from Yemen). I saw Allah’s Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) touching and kissing it.”

LOL @ Ibn `Umar (radiallaahu `anhu)’s reply. :P

Volume 2, Book 26, Number 681:

Narrated Ibn Abbas (radiallaahu `anhu):

The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) performed Tawaf of the Ka’ba while riding a camel, and whenever he came in front of the Corner, he pointed towards it (with something).

Volume 2, Book 26, Number 682:

Narrated Ibn Abbas (radiallaahu `anhu):

The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) performed Tawaf of the Ka’ba riding a camel, and every time he came in front of the Corner (having the Black Stone), he pointed towards it with something he had with him and said Takbir.

Tawaaf or circumambulation of the Ka’bah is a pure act of worship and the basic principle with regard to acts of worship is tawqeef (i.e., to do them exactly as prescribed in the Qur’aan and Sunnah). It is proven from the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) that he used to say takbeer in his tawaaf every time he came in line with the Black Stone, and undoubtedly the person who is doing tawaaf comes in line with it at the end of the seventh circuit, so it is Sunnah for him to say takbeer just as it is Sunnah for him to say takbeer at the beginning of every circuit when he comes in line with it, following the example of the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), along with pointing at the Black Stone and kissing it if he can.
