The Successful Businessman is the Sincere One (Hadith No. 1844)
Bismillah.
Volume 3, Book 34, Number 349:
Narrated by ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (radiallaahu `anhu)
Allah’s Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said, “Do not urge somebody to return what he has already bought (i.e. in optional sale) from another seller so as to sell him your own goods.”
This is forbidden because it harms the first seller by putting him in loss. It can lead to other evils as well, like negativity and revenge etc. One shouldn’t put someone else in loss/harm for their own good/benefit. Honesty and sincerity will put barakah in your business.
Revive The Light Inside, Let The Change Begin
Sounds like the SIST 2014 theme? That’s because it is the same. I wrote this piece to participate in Spoken Word competition at SIST . Finished it 1 day before the event. Too bad couldn’t memorize it properly and forgot while reading. No position for me lol But Alhamdulillah everything happens for a reason so I’m happy :) I just noticed that now I have 27 pieces and if I reach 50 I might make them into a small book in sha Allah. Man I missed posting on this blog so much! Please do read the amazing Ahadith posted everyday.
Would you believe me if I said there’s an army coming?
Would you prepare to fight, or would you start running?
Or maybe you would laugh cuz you know I’m a liar…
And after a short while, I would just stop trying…
Maybe to you I’m like that shepherd who used to lie
Who had no real threat yet “A Lion, A Lion!” he used to cry…
But I’m confused because whatever I say is not even a lie…
I only try to correct you and tell you what is right
Remind you of the Hereafter; tell you about Allah’s Might
So you might come back to the path that is straight
But I’m getting impatient and now I really can’t wait
Cuz it’s late, and I have to go to the cinema with my friend
I really didn’t want to but it is the newest trend
So I spend what I can, to stay up to date
Now if you excuse me I have to leave for my date
But listen to me my mate, you should really fear Allah
Whenever you hear the call, just run for your Salah
And surely Allah will show you your way
The path of those who are guided and not of those who are astray
Man I don’t understand why you don’t listen to me!
I seem to be doing the Da’wah properly!!
So I guess it has something to do with that advice
My mother once gave me while cooking white rice
That if you want to change the world you would have to start from yourself!
That people wouldn’t trust me if I committed sins myself!
How I ignored the words that came straight from her heart
Thinking I had my cool ways, thinking I was really smart
But now I see what she said was indeed very right
It was my narrow thinking and my limited insight
And now I realize it after many long days
That I really have to stop, that I have to mend my ways
Cuz change, change and change!! We all want to see it!
The funny thing is that no one is ready to be it
So I gotta start from today and firmly decide
Make sincere Du’a that only to Allah I should confide
To revive the light inside and let the change begin…
Cuz “Allah does not change the condition of a people, unless they change what is within…” [Interpretation of the meaning – Surah Ar-Ra’d, verse 11]
Business with Friends (Hadith No. 1843)
Bismillah.
Volume 3, Book 34, Number 348 :
Narrated by Aisha (radiallaahu `anhaa)
Rarely did the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) fail to visit Abu Bakr (radiallaahu `anhu)’s house everyday, either in the morning or in the evening. When the permission for migration to Medina was granted, all of a sudden the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) came to us at noon and Abu Bakr (radiallaahu `anhu) was informed, who said, “Certainly the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) has come for some urgent matter.” The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said to Abu Bakr (radiallaahu `anhu), when the latter entered “Let nobody stay in your home.” Abu Bakr (radiallaahu `anhu) said, “O Allah’s Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam)! There are only my two daughters (namely ‘Aisha and Asma’) present.” The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said, “I feel (am informed) that I have been granted the permission for migration.” Abu Bakr (radiallaahu `anhu) said, “I will accompany you, O Allah’s Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam)!” The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said, “You will accompany me.” Abu Bakr (radiallaahu `anhu) then said “O Allah’s Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam)! I have two she-camels I have prepared specially for migration, so I offer you one of them. The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said, “I have accepted it on the condition that I will pay its price.”
It’s better to do business with friends, I guess. They’re trusted people because you know them personally. They won’t double-cross you or deceive you or manipulate you for their own benefit. They’ll always look out for you and keep your good interest in consideration. And you’ll do the same for them. :)
A Kind of Riba [Interest] (Ahadith 1836 – 1842)
Bismillah.
Volume 3, Book 34, Number 341 :
Narrated by Salim
That his father said. “I saw those, who used to buy foodstuff without measuring or weighing in the life time of the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) being punished if they sold it before carrying it to their own houses.”
Volume 3, Book 34, Number 342 :
Narrated by Tawus
Ibn ‘Abbas (radiallaahu `anhu) said, “Allah’s Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) forbade the selling of foodstuff before its measuring and transferring into one’s possession.” I asked Ibn ‘Abbas (radiallaahu `anhu), “How is that?” Ibn ‘Abbas (radiallaahu `anhu) replied, “It will be just like selling money for money, as the foodstuff has not been handed over to the first purchaser who is the present seller.”
Volume 3, Book 34, Number 343 :
Narrated by Ibn Umar (radiallaahu `anhu)
The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said, “He who buys foodstuff should not sell it till he has received it.”
Volume 3, Book 34, Number 344 :
Narrated by Az-Zuhri from Malik bin Aus
That the latter said, “Who has change?” Talha said, “I (will have change) when our store-keeper comes from the forest.” Narrated ‘Umar bin Al-Khattab (radiallaahu `anhu): Allah’s Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said, “The bartering of gold for silver is Riba, (usury), except if it is from hand to hand and equal in amount, and wheat grain for wheat grain is usury except if it is form hand to hand and equal in amount, and dates for dates is usury except if it is from hand to hand and equal in amount, and barley for barley is usury except if it is from hand to hand and equal in amount.“
Volume 3, Book 34, Number 345 :
Narrated by Ibn ‘Abbas (radiallaahu `anhu)
The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) forbade the selling of foodstuff before receiving it. I consider that all types of sellings should be done similarly.
Volume 3, Book 34, Number 346 :
Narrated by Ibn ‘Umar (radiallaahu `anhu)
The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said, “The buyer of foodstuff should not sell it before it has been measured for him.” Isma’il narrated instead, “He should not sell it before receiving it.”
Volume 3, Book 34, Number 347 :
Narrated by Ibn ‘Umar (radiallaahu `anhu)
I saw the people buy foodstuff randomly (i.e. blindly without measuring it) in the life-time of Allah’s Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) and they were punished (by beating), if they tried to sell it before carrying it to their own houses.
We previously studied that reselling something before taking its possession is not allowed, because it’s like exchanging money for money –> interest.
Now we also know that it’s necessary to measure before selling the merchandise/foodstuff. It’s only fair. You must price it accordingly and the buyer will judge its worth once he has complete info.
