Being Selfless
Assalamu’alaikum!
I’ve been thinking all day: what to blog about? Forgetting that all this time, I had the perfect Press regarding real life! ;)
Getting so many holidays after a year is NOT good for health, trust me. Health as in physical + mental + spiritual. But we try to console ourselves with: “I deserve it.” or “It’s needed for another fresh start.” The same happened with me. One year: tough routine (which I like). End of the year: ’round 20 holidays. Who can live with that?
Holidays in my life are spent at home, mostly. Once in a blue moon, with the Grace of Allah, something exciting might happen.
I come to my point now.. Spending all this time at home drives you crazy. People are around you 24/7. Cherry on top: it’s the SAME people you interact with day and night. NO CHANGE! I can’t stand it so I tend to get very very cranky.
So these holidays I tried to be selfless. To not let my ‘self’ come in the way of me being nice to people. I TRIED. Can’t say that I succeeded. :p
One crazy thing about being selfless is that you don’t get any reward whatsoever. Nobody even notices that you’re trying so hard. Haha. It’s the perfect trial one can go through. So you expect the reward only from Allah. Because He knows. He knows you’ve been sacrificing. He knows you wanted to smack the person who criticized your cooking/cleaning/any other effort you made BUT you controlled your ‘self’ there. You held yourself back from reaction. You practised true patience. Good patience! :)
And this is what I love the most about it: your intention can never go wrong. Since you’re not showing off to anyone. You’re doing it for the sake of Allah alone. And only He’ll reward you with what you deserve.
Listen to the nasheed ‘Allah Knows’ by Zain Bhikha to get more emo. ;)
Today’s lesson: be selfless!
