In light of the frequently occurring earthquakes these days… Most of these signs can be found in various Hadiths of the Prophet (SallAllaahu Alaiyhi Wasallam). I tried to find the ones I could. See the links in sha Allah.
As we reach close to the end of times
The earth gets filled with sins and crimes
When Humans worse than animals behave
When a child treats his own mother as a slave (1)
When false prophets start to increase in number (2)
When you wake people up but they prefer to slumber
When the most loved person is a liar and deceiver
When the most hated person is a faithful believer
When even Muslims start believing in false prophecies
When no one is afraid of committing hypocrisy
When killing someone becomes a piece of cake
When while taking a life, a person’s hands don’t even shake (3)
When children of fornication are born everyday
When people stop caring if someone goes astray
When all of this gets too much to take
Then that is when the earth frequently starts to shake… (4)
The Prophet talked about a man leveling the earth on prostrating, and said, “If you have to do so, then do it once.”
They used to pray on bare earth back then, so ‘leveling the earth’ was required. So if you’re leveling the earth or the mat you’re praying on, do it once only. Any more than that might disturb the khushoo` of your prayer or of those praying with you.
Narrated Anas bin Malik:
We used to pray with the Prophet in scorching heat, and if someone of us could not put his face on the earth (because of the heat) then he would spread his clothes and prostrate over them.
Women may use their dupattas for this purpose, and men should have spare hankies with them. :)
Hadith is a repeat, by the way. Read here.
Narrated Said bin ‘Abdur Rahman bin Abza:
(on the authority of his father who said) ‘Ammar said so (the above Statement). And Shu’ba stroked lightly the earth with his hands and brought them close to his mouth (blew off the dust) and passed them over his face and then the backs of his hands. ‘Ammar said, “Ablution (meaning Tayammum here) is sufficient for a Muslim if water is not available.”
There are precisely three steps in tayammum:
- Stroke the earth* lightly with hands.
- Bring the hands close to mouth, blow off the dust.
- Pass the hands over the face and then the backhands.
Prayer is obligatory on all Muslims, despite their skin color, their financial status, their culture, race, geography etc. So no matter where we are, we have to pray when it’s time for Salah. Oh and save your excuses, because you don’t need a mosque/prayer rug to pray, as the whole Earth is made a ‘masjid‘ (place of prostration) for us.
Prior to the construction of the mosque, the Prophet offered the prayers at sheep-folds.
This Hadith reminded me of a nasheed/song “The Crazy Spots I’ve Prayed” by Dawud Wharnsby Ali. Give it a listen!
