Narrated Jabir bin ‘Abdullah (radiallaahu `anhu):
When the Ka’ba was built, the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) and Abbas (radiallaahu `anhu) went to bring stones (for its construction). Al Abbas (radiallaahu `anhu) said to the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam), “Take off your waist sheet and put it on your neck.” (When the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) took it off) he fell on the ground with his eyes open towards the sky and said, “Give me my waist sheet.” And he covered himself with it.
It’s sort of funny, and cute. Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) was so modest and shy, SubhanAllah! Women even have so much to learn from him!
Hadith no. 133 is a repeat. Read it here.
I used to get the emotional urethral discharge frequently so I requested Al-Miqdad to ask the Prophet about it. Al-Miqdad asked him and he replied, “One has to perform ablution (after it).”
Lesson: Take help from your friends to get over your shyness.
Hadith no. 131 is a repeat. Read it here.
Shyness is quite harmful to a person’s social life. Especially when it comes to learning, there’ll be some stuff you will need to ask others but won’t find the courage to. At that time, remember this: ALLAH DOES NOT SHY AWAY FROM THE TRUTH.
Narrated Um Salama:
Um-Sulaim came to Allah’s Apostle and said, “Verily, Allah is not shy of (telling you) the truth. Is it necessary for a woman to take a bath after she has a wet dream (nocturnal sexual discharge?) The Prophet replied, “Yes, if she notices a discharge.” Um Salama, then covered her face and asked, “O Allah’s Apostle! Does a woman get a discharge?” He replied, “Yes, let your right hand be in dust (An Arabic expression you say to a person when you contradict his statement meaning “you will not achieve goodness”), and that is why the son resembles his mother.”
Lesson: do not be shy when it comes to gaining knowledge.
You know the feeling when we know the answer to something but we don’t tell? The feeling’s called shyness. Unnecessary shyness, to be more precise..
It’s more common in kids, as it’s always been. Abdullah bin ‘Umar here was also a kid. Check out what happened with him..
Narrated Ibn ‘Umar:
Allah’s Apostle said, “Amongst the trees, there is a tree, the leaves of which do not fall and is like a Muslim. Tell me the name of that tree.” Everybody started thinking about the trees of the desert areas. And I thought of the date-palm tree but felt shy to answer. The others then asked, “What is that tree, O Allah’s Apostle ?” He replied, “It is the date-palm tree.”
The reason he tells for not answering the Prophet (SAW) is that he didn’t think it right to speak up in the presence of elders –> unnecessary shyness.
His father, ‘Umar (RA) also told him that he should have spoken up. And that he would’ve liked it very much.
Anyway, taking a lesson, being a student, remember: NEVER be shy while learning. If you have a question, go for it. If you know the answer, speak up!
