Miraculous (Hadith No. 170)

Salam,
Bismillah.

When we talk about miracles, what comes to our minds? Power, extraordinary, supernatural, unreal, impossible etc.. But do we think about this: where does the extraordinary power comes from? Is the miracle a feat of the human being performing it or is there another force behind it? Well there’s no doubt about one thing: the human being performing the miracle does not possess the power personally. Allah gives him/her the power and the capability for the time.
If this topic interests you, do read Shah Waliullah (of Delhi)’s book “Tawil al-Ahadith” for more insight. :)
Coming back to the miracle…

Volume 1, Book 4, Number 170:

Narrated Anas bin Malik:

saw Allah’s Apostle when the ‘Asr prayer was due and the people searched for water to perform ablution but they could not find it. Later on (a pot full of) water for ablution was brought to Allah’s Apostle . He put his hand in that pot and ordered the people to perform ablution from it. I saw the water springing out from underneath his fingers till all of them performed the ablution (it was one of the miracles of the Prophet).

Remember, it wasn’t magic, it was Allah’s help. And the Prophet (SAW) did not do it out of his own will/power.

Ablution Of The Prophet (SAW) (Hadith No. 142)

Salam,
Bismillah.

Read this very carefully because we need to follow the exact steps.

Volume 1, Book 4, Number 142:

Narrated ‘Ata’ bin Yasar:

Ibn ‘Abbas performed ablution and washed his face (in the following way): He ladled out a handful of water, rinsed his mouth and washed his nose with it by putting in water and then blowing it out. He then, took another handful (of water) and did like this (gesturing) joining both hands, and washed his face, took another handful of water and washed his right forearm. He again took another handful of water and washed his left forearm, and passed wet hands over his head and took another handful of water and poured it over his right foot (up to his ankles) and washed it thoroughly and similarly took another handful of water and washed thoroughly his left foot (up to the ankles) and said, “I saw Allah’s Apostle performing ablution in this way.”

Easy right? If you have queries, don’t hesitate to ask!

His Eyes Sleep, But His Heart Does Not (Hadith No. 140)

Salam,
Bismillah.

Volume 1, Book 4, Number 140:

Narrated Kuraib:

Ibn ‘Abbas said, “The Prophet slept till he snored and then prayed (or probably lay till his breath sounds were heard and then got up and prayed).” Ibn ‘Abbas added: “I stayed overnight in the house of my aunt, Maimuna, the Prophet slept for a part of the night, and late in the night, he got up and performed ablution from a hanging water skin, a light (perfect) ablution and stood up for the prayer. I, too, performed a similar ablution, then I went and stood on his left. He drew me to his right and prayed as much as Allah wished, and again lay and slept till his breath sounds were heard. Later on the Mua’dhdhin (callmaker for the prayer) came to him and informed him that it was time for Prayer. The Prophet went with him for the prayer without performing a new ablution.” (Sufyan said to ‘Amr that some people said, “The eyes of Allah’s Apostle sleep but his heart does not sleep.” ‘Amr replied, “I heard ‘Ubaid bin ‘Umar saying that the dreams of Prophets were Divine Inspiration, and then he recited the verse: ‘I (Abraham) see in a dream, (O my son) that I offer you in sacrifice (to Allah).” (37.102)

And it’s true. His heart was always awake. The dreams he used to get were divine inspirations due to the same reason. And his not renewing his wudu after sleeping was also because of this.
So I imagine, what would it feel like to have your heart awake all the time.. When we sleep, we want our whole body to rest so we’ll be fresh and ready to work when we wake up. But what about that heart that didn’t get rest at all?
And I come to the conclusion: heart’s sleep here does not mean that the heart stops its function. Rather, the eyes and ears of the heart go to sleep. And since Prophet (SAW)’s heart never slept, his eyes and ears of the heart were always awake. Meaning, even though his physical body was resting, he was still in his senses. Amazing right? :D

Wouldn’t we all love to try that? :)

Keeping the Prophet (SAW)’s Name (Hadith No. 110)

Salam,
Bismillah.

Hadith no. 107, 108, 109 are repeated. Read it here.

In Pakistan, every other boy’s name starts with Muhammad. If one’s name is Jamal, for example, he’ll be called ‘Muhammad Jamal’. :)
But in some countries, keeping this name isn’t appreciated. These people think it’s dis-respectable to the Prophet (SAW). No one should be named after him.
Who’s right and who’s wrong? Let’s see what the Prophet (SAW) said about it himself..

Volume 1, Book 3, Number 110:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet said, “Name yourselves with my name (use my name) but do not name yourselves with my Kunya name (i.e. Abu-l Qasim). And whoever sees me in a dream then surely he has seen me for Satan cannot impersonate me. And whoever tells a lie against me (intentionally), then (surely) let him occupy his seat in Hell-fire.”

So you may keep his name. But using his kunya name (Abul Qasim) isn’t allowed.

And if you see the Prophet (SAW) in your dream, you see the real him. So go on trying to dream about him! ;)

Wassalam.

The Worst Lie (Hadith No. 106)

Salam,
Bismillah.

Lying is a major sin. It’s the trait of a hypocrite. And there are many punishments prescribed for it. But there are further divisions and degrees of lying. Among the highest ones is: lying against the Prophet (SAW). It includes misquoting him/telling a lie to dis him. The punishment is grave. Even more than a regular lie..

Volume 1, Book 3, Number 106:

Narrated ‘Ali:

The Prophet said, “Do not tell a lie against me for whoever tells a lie against me (intentionally) then he will surely enter the Hell-fire.”

Lesson: be careful while quoting Prophet (SAW)’s Ahadith. If there’s no reference, do not pass it on. If it’ not authentic, don’t even believe in it. This is a serious matter, so take it seriously!
