Deriving Lessons from Hadith (Hadith No. 822)
Salam,
Bismillah.
These are repeats: Ahadith 818, 819, 820 and 821.
Prophet (SAW) was a perfect man. His words and actions were full of wisdom. Surely we have a lot to learn from him. Everyone can derive lessons from a simple Hadith according to his/her level of understanding. A child will learn something from a Hadith, an adult will learn two or three things from that same Hadith. Whereas doctors, engineers, psychologists, nutritionists, lawyers, fuqahaa’, businessmen will all have a different approach to that one Hadith.
This is why while going through Bukhari, it’s weird that some Ahadith (apparently) have no connection with the chapter they’re written under. And that one Hadith is repeated around 20 times (more or less) in different chapters But it makes one realize how deep Imam Bukhari’s understanding was, that he could derive so many lessons from one Hadith. MashaAllah. May Allah have mercy on him, and grant him Jannat-ul-Firdaws. And may He grant me a chance to meet him in Jannah as well. <3
So I’ll study today’s Hadith, and try to derive as many lessons as possible. You give it a shot as well!
Volume 1, Book 12, Number 822:
Narrated ‘Abdur Rahman bin ‘Abis:
A person asked Ibn Abbas, “Have you ever presented yourself at the (‘Id) prayer with Allah’s Apostle?” He replied, “Yes.” And had it not been for my kinship (position) with the Prophet it would not have been possible for me to do so (for he was too young). The Prophet went to the mark near the house of Kathir bin As-Salt and delivered a sermon. He then went towards the women. He advised and reminded them and asked them to give alms. So the woman would bring her hand near her neck and take off her necklace and put it in the garment of Bilal. Then the Prophet and Bilal came to the house.”
- One learns a lot by asking questions. Develop the habit! BUT, avoid pointless questions.
- Good company will lead to good influence, and eventually good deeds inshaAllah.
- Take your family along while going for `Id prayer. Men, women, boys, girls are all encouraged to gather for `Id prayer.
- Teaching women is important. Teaching them ‘especially’ is important as well (hint: sisters-only halaqahs). They’re the mothers of the Ummah. They’re awesome like that. :)
- It is permissible to ask for donations – for a good cause.
I can’t think of anything else right now. Can you?

More Variety (Hadith No. 196)

We learned about some variation in Hadith no. 190. More today!
Narrated ‘Abdullah bin Zaid:
Once Allah’s Apostle came to us and we brought out water for him in a brass pot. He performed ablution thus: He washed his face thrice, and his forearms to the elbows twice, then passed his wet hands lightly over the head from front to rear and brought them to front again and washed his feet (up to the ankles).
Enjoy performing wudu differently every time. :)

Why Are You So Different? (Hadith no. 167)

People do so and so, but you do it differently. Why?
I found the answer to this question in this Hadith..
Narrated ‘Ubaid Ibn Juraij:
I asked ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar, “O Abu ‘Abdur-Rahman! I saw you doing four things which I never saw being done by anyone of you companions?” ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar said, “What are those, O Ibn Juraij?” I said, “I never saw you touching any corner of the Ka’ba except these (two) facing south (Yemen) and I saw you wearing shoes made of tanned leather and dyeing your hair with Hinna; (a kind of dye). I also noticed that whenever you were in Mecca, the people assume lhram on seeing the new moon crescent (1st of Dhul-Hijja) while you did not assume the Ihlal (Ihram)–(Ihram is also called Ihlal which means ‘Loud calling’ because a Muhrim has to recite Talbiya aloud when assuming the state of Ihram)–till the 8th of Dhul-Hijja (Day of Tarwiya). ‘Abdullah replied, “Regarding the corners of Ka’ba, I never saw Allah’s Apostle touching except those facing south (Yemen) and regarding the tanned leather shoes, no doubt I saw Allah’s Apostle wearing non-hairy shoes and he used to perform ablution while wearing the shoes (i.e. wash his feet and then put on the shoes). So I love to wear similar shoes. And about the dyeing of hair with Hinna; no doubt I saw Allah’s Apostle dyeing his hair with it and that is why I like to dye (my hair with it). Regarding Ihlal, I did not see Allah’s Apostle assuming Ihlal till he set out for Hajj (on the 8th of Dhul-Hijja).”
We do it differently because we follow the Prophet (SAW). The reason we stand out from the crowd is that the crowd does not follow the Prophet (SAW).
