Believers in the Grave (Ahadith 1149 – 1150)

Bismillah.

Volume 2, Book 23, Number 450:

Narrated Al-Bara’ bin ‘Azib :

The Prophet (p.b.u.h) said, “When a faithful believer is made to sit in his grave, then (the angels) come to him and he testifies that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad is Allah’s Apostle. And that corresponds to Allah’s statement: Allah will keep firm those who believe with the word that stands firm . . . (14.27).

Volume 2, Book 23, Number 451:

Narrated Shu’ba:

Same as above and added, “Allah will keep firm those who believe . . . (14.27) was revealed concerning the punishment of the grave.”

Here’s the background of this ayah. Must read to get the whole picture. Click here.

Who knows how much time we’re going to spend in our graves? Tens, hundreds, thousands, millions of years? It’d be nice if we enjoy that time, no? May Allah protect us from the punishment of the grave.

Wassalam.

  1. Ameeeen!!! I absolutely love this post!!!! You know these verses were the most confusing and intriguing verses in Surah Ibrahim for me! Now it totally makes sense! Haven’t read the Tafsir link yet but going to insha’Allah!!

Allah keeps firm those who believe, with the firm word, in worldly life and in the Hereafter. And Allah sends astray the wrongdoers. And Allah does what He wills.

In worldly life AND IN THE HEREAFTER!!!! subhanAllah. I feel so happy right now just because I got to know something new!! Alhamdulillah!

  2. “List my servants record in `Illiyyin

    What is Illiyyin?

    • Ok so is this a book? Illiyin is for good people and Sijjeen for bad people?????

      • Record of wicked is in ‘Sijjeen’.
And record of the righteous is in ‘Illiyyeen’.

        [83. Surah Al-Mutaffifeen : Ayah 7-17]

“Nay! most surely the record of the wicked is in the Sijjeen. And what will make you know what the Sijjeen is? It is a written book. Woe on that day to the rejecters, Who give the lie to the day of judgment. And none gives the lie to it but every exceeder of limits, sinful one When Our communications are recited to him, he says: Stories of those of yore. Nay! rather, what they used to do has become like rust . upon their hearts. Nay! most surely they shall on that day be debarred from their Lord. Then most surely they shall enter the burning fire. Then shall it be said: This is what you gave the lie to.”

        [83. Surah Al-Mutaffifeen : Ayah 8-28]

“Nay! Most surely the record of the righteous shall be in the Illiyyeen. And what will make you know what the highest Illiyyeen is? It is a written book, Those who are drawn near (to Allah) shall witness it. Most surely the righteous shall be in bliss, On thrones, they shall gaze; You will recognize in their faces the brightness of bliss. They are made to quaff of a pure drink that is sealed (to others). The sealing of it is (with) musk; and for that let the aspirers aspire. And the admixture of it is a water of Tasnim, A fountain from which drink they who are drawn near (to Allah).”

Sijjeen is also taken to be a place in Hell, and `Illiyyen, a place in Paradise.

P.S. this website is an excellent resource for Quranic grammar and morphology etc.

      • tuinshi nasution

        its 18 for ‘illiyyeen

      • Yes. Jzk khayr for the correction. It’s ayat 18 for ‘Illiyyeen.

      • Ok I read those verses now. JazakAllah khayr!! And a little more info on TASNIM PLEASE (that’s my mom’s name! I knew it was in the Quran but never knew where!) Need to speed up on the reading process! and jazakAllah khayr for the P.S.

      • Al-Mutaffifeen: 27 – 28
“And the admixture of it is a water of Tasnim, A fountain from which drink they who are drawn near (to Allah).”

That’s all we know about it. It’s a spring/fountain in Paradise, only the Muqarraboon [those near to Allah] will drink from it.
It is also said that Tasneem is the most elevated spring in Jannah.

      • The comments helped in understanding better, JazakAllah Khair. On a side note: the Qur’an’s poetic rhythm and perfect symmetry never fails to fascinate me – referring to the ayaat on Illiyin and Sijjeen. SubhaanAllah!

      • JazakAllah khayr… Have to work hard for it then… may Allah make us worthy of it! Ameen.

  3. They will bring with them Musuh

This is for the evil soul of the disbeliever… What is Musuh?

  4. Done. May Allah have mercy on us and forgive our sins and guide us to the straight path and keep us firm on it.

  5. tuinshi nasution

    ameen

  6. Ameen. May Allah give us the opportunity to be amongst those people!
