Hadith No. 14 – Sahih al-Bukhari

I skipped a day. I know. My excuse is not genuine at all. So, I won’t tell you. But I’ve said sorry to Allah, and in order to make up for my mistake, I’ll be doing two Ahadith today, inshaAllah. =)

And I have a small request. I’m a human, very prone to mistakes and blunders. When I go wrong somewhere (like I did yesterday), I want you guys, the readers, to remind/correct me. Actually some of my friends did ask me why I didn’t write any Hadith yesterday. And I love them for it. <3

Volume 1, Book 2, Number 13:

Narrated Anas:

The Prophet said “None of you will have faith till he loves me more than his father, his children and all mankind.”

There’s a slight difference between this and yesterday’s Hadith. It talks about loving the Prophet (SAW) more than our parents, children and ALL MANKIND. That includes ourselves.

Me, myself and I.

What stops us from following the Prophet (SAW)? Our ‘selves’. Let’s take the example of eating while sitting – that’s a Sunnah. Say I’m in the kitchen, making myself a sandwich. Since it’s a ‘snack’, I eat it standing/walking about in the kitchen. What’s stopping me from sitting down? ‘Oh it’s just a couple of bites. I should make the effort to sit down for that?’ Yes, I should! Because it’s a Sunnah.

There are small matters in which we need to check ourselves. Never give yourself excuses that contain these words: Me, myself and I.

And that’s the lesson for today: GET OVER YOURSELF.
